AFRO STUDENTS BIZ CHALLENGE

Afro- students Enterpreurship Challenge is a platform for student entrepreneurs in high schools and universities across Africa to showcase their innovative business models and community service projects with capacity to address one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Shortlisted teams from each participating country will be invited to the Annual Afro-Students Entrepreneurship Education Summit where they will pitch to a panel of judges who will determine the most creative , innovative and impactful team. We are looking for students, school/community based teams with the most creative, innovative and impactful business initiatives/models.

WHO CAN ENTER

 

All high school and university students not older than 25 years are eligible to enter. High school students must form a team of not less than 5 students. Individual entries are allowed for university students.

 

COMPETITION CATEGORIES

For Profit Enterprise: A business model that is FOCUSED on addressing at least one customer problem and has the ability to maximize profit and scale.

Social Enterprise: A business model FOCUSED on addressing at least one SOCIAL PROBLEM with the capacity to generate revenue for the sustenance of the social impact.

5 minutes video on project concept made by the students.

GUIDELINES & CRITERIA

 
  1. The competition is open to high schools and universities across Africa.
  2. Must be a team based project (at least 5 students for high school entries).
  3. University students may submit individual entries.
  4. Business must relate to one or two of the categories : For Profit or Social Enterprise.
  5. Entries must be submitted in English.
  6. Make a 5 minute summary video of the business model concept.
  7. Submit business model concept of not more than four pages showing your LEAN BUSINESS MODEL(appendix).
  8. Send in photos of your project activities.
  9. Entrants should be available to attend the Afro Students Entrepreneurship Education Summits hosted in different African country each year.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA (LEAN BUSINESS MODEL)

 
  1. Problem : List the 3 top problems your product / service is addressing.
  2. Customers Segment : Who are your target customers.
  3. Unique Value Proposition : What is the single, clear ,compelling message that states why your product /service is different and worth buying.
  4. Solution: What are the top 3 features of your product/services?
  5. Channels: What are the pathways to customers?
  6. Revenue Streams: What is the revenue model, the life time values, the revenue, the gross margin?
  7. Cost Structure: What are the customer acquisition costs, distribution cost, human resources costs, and additional costs?
  8. Key Metrics: What are the key activities that must be measured?
  9. Customer Segments : What’s about your product / services means that it cannot be easily.
  10. Describe how your business has addressed any of the 17 SDG goals.

Finalists will be contacted on 6th September, 2019.

Mentorship and support is provided to all finalists

 

Students and their teachers can utilize the array of resources on our website to enable them submit a compelling entry;
Teachers and mentors can utilize the AFROSEED Lean Business course lesson notes to help students submit great entries.
